An Introduction to Advanced Wastewater Treatment
In An Introduction to Advanced Wastewater Treatment, you'll learn ...
- Microstraining design factors and hydraulic control
- Activated carbon adsorption process configurations and design parameters
- Various phosphorous removal methods
- Design of single-stage nitrification systems
Overview
This course will introduce you to advanced wastewater treatment processes that provide higher quality wastewater discharge than achievable with primary and secondary treatment alone. You will learn about polishing ponds, post-aeration, microstraining, filtration, activated carbon adsorption, phosphorous removal, land application systems, nitrification, denitrification, three-stage biological systems, and anaerobic contact processes.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the sequence of wastewater treatment processes.
- Outline the sequence of processes used in wastewater treatment.
- Interpret typical application data for advanced wastewater treatment operations and processes.
- Identify the design factors for a microstrainer.
- Explain the hydraulic control of microscreening units.
- Describe the basic design parameters for filtration processes.
- Identify filtration media sizes and filtration rates.
- Explain the principles of multimedia filtration.
- Describe the activated carbon adsorption process.
- Explain the operation of pulsed-bed activated carbon adsorption systems.
- Describe activated carbon quantities and adsorption capacity.
- Identify acceptable hydraulic loadings for activated carbon adsorption processes.
- Explain the chemical basis for phosphorus removal.
- Describe phosphorus removal by aluminum addition.
- Explain phosphorus removal by iron addition.
- Describe phosphorus removal using lime treatment.
- Distinguish between nitrification and denitrification processes.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 30 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
