Non-Wire Alternatives/Solutions (Video On Demand)
Credit: 2 PDH
Subject Matter Expert: Ahmed Mousa, PhD
In Non-Wire Alternatives/Solutions (Video On Demand), you'll learn ...
- The definition of non-wire alternatives (NWAs), and the regulatory changes associated with them
- The difference between traditional transmission and distribution load relief
- The shifting role that customers are playing in energy, from simply consumers to power producers.
Overview
On a global scale, several groups work tirelessly to promote renewables and NWAs to mitigate forecasted load demand and defer traditional transmission and distribution (T&D) load relief/capital expenditures.
In certain locations, utility core functions have significantly shifted or changed. Customers’ roles have changed as well, from passive energy consumers to power producers. We will cover these topics, some of which include solar power sources, fuel cells, microgrids as n-1 or n-1-1, as well as the pros and cons of innovative NWAs, and what happens when NWAs go wrong. We will also explore several external factors that affect NWAs, and the effects that NWAs themselves have on other parts of the energy industry. This course is a recording of a live webinar.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Various distribution designs of NWAs
- Creative solutions
- Non-traditional deferral means
- Storage
- Co-gen/CHP
- Retirement of large generators & VAR deficiency
- Nonpipe solution for gas
Video on Demand
This course is a recorded version of a live lecture and will be streamed directly to your computer's media player. Our format is generally compatible with media players included with all computers and mobile devices. After watching the video presentation, you will return to your account to take the online quiz. While this is a recording of a live presentation, please note that this recording will not qualify as a "live" or "interactive" continuing education activity in those jurisdictions where it is required.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
