Overview
This course is specifically designed for Ohio-licensed engineers to qualify as a "timed and monitored" online course. The course contains an automatic timer that prevents the user from accessing the quiz and earning a certificate of completion until the minimum amount of study time has been met. This achieves the Ohio Board's intent that an online course should be "paced" by the provider. For more information, please see the Ohio state requirements. This course may also be accepted in other states (see the "Board Acceptance" tab above).

In Electric Lighting Design and Characteristics , you'll learn ...

  • Basic physics of lighting
  • Luminous flux vs intensity
  • Characteristics of the various types of lamps, as well as their advantages and disadvantages
  • Interior and exterior lighting design methods and examples
  • Plus much more

Duration: 110 minutes

This course covers the application of various forms of electric lighting and electric lighting applications, including residential, commercial, and industrial. We will cover the physics of light, the light spectrum, lumen calculation, and characteristics of major lighting sources, including incadescent, fluorescent, and LED lamps.

We will additionally work through the basics of designing a lighting system for residential, commercial, and area lighting, allowing the information to be placed into real-world context.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • The types of lighting used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications
  • The physics of light and the light spectrum
  • How to determine the lumens required to produce a specific footcandle output
  • The characteristics of the major lighting sources such as incandescent, fluorescent, and LED lamps
  • The basics of how to design a lighting system for residential, commercial, and area lighting

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
