John Schumann, P.E. (Retired)

John Schumann, P.E. (Retired), is an engineer with thirty years of experience in a variety of heavy industries.  He has an MS in Civil Engineering with a minor in Chemical Engineering and was registered as a Professional Engineer in 4 states.  For 20 years, he served as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on surge and transient fluid mechanics in pipelines for several pipeline operating companies.  

His regular duties included surge (water hammer) analysis and prevention design; optimization of pump systems and pipeline operation to obtain maximum efficiency; and analysis of pump application for active oil, refined product, natural gas liquids (NGL), and water pipeline systems.

Mr. Schumann was a course instructor for short courses on the subject of transient fluid mechanics in pipelines, steady-state hydraulics, and pump application in pipelines.  He performed forensic engineering and root cause analysis for problematic systems and accident investigation and served as an expert witness for pipeline related cases.

Mr. Schumann retired from the pipeline industry in 2022 and is now heading his own company JPM Resources LLC.
