John Montana, P.E.

John Montana, P.E., is a seasoned electrical engineer with over 15 years of experience working with mission critical electrical distribution, electrical design, electrical construction project management, and clean energy generation. John has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Stony Brook University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York.

John began his engineering career as an intern, and later a full time electrical engineer at Power Management Concepts (PMC). His main responsibilities included short circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard studies, creating operational electrical one-line diagrams, writing critical operations procedures, technical maintenance programs, alternative energy feasibility studies, harmonics analysis, bid specifications, commissioning, mission critical systems surveys, and Generator Testing.  John also has programming experience developing Android software and was responsible for leading the development team for PMC’s SmartWALK application.

After PMC, John joined Parsons Corporation as a Senior Electrical Engineer for the TSSC4 contract to design and build electrical distribution and controls for FAA NAVAIDs systems. Through this position John gained valuable experience designing and managing construction of FAA NAVAIDs equipment at various Northeast airports. Experience at Parsons included preliminary site surveys, electrical design, load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash calculations, construction estimates, and construction project management.

Following Parsons, John pivoted his career to the clean energy sector by joining Bloom Energy as a Sales Engineer. In this position, John performed site surveys for potential customers’ fuel cell installations. Information gathered at the site survey was used to develop a preliminary electrical design which included electrical tie-in with the customer’s facility, as well as the local utility, and also incorporated microgrid and critical power components with the fuel cell design.

From Bloom Energy John moved to Fuel Cell Energy (FCE) where he is currently continuing his career as a Senior Electrical Engineer in the clean energy sector. At FCE John is responsible for designing and improving FCE’s Electrical Balance of Plant, which includes AC and DC electrical distribution and controls equipment to convert power generated by the fuel cells to usable power that is interconnected to the electrical grid.
