This course provides training on the fundamentals of concrete that is beneficial to all engineers. The course covers all the bases, from the manufacture of the cement that goes into concrete to the inspection of concrete structures.

You’ll learn the components of concrete and how the mixture ratios impact the properties of the finished product. The concrete process is covered, including how to estimate the amount of concrete needed and how concrete is mixed, poured and finished.

You’ll learn how to calculate the amount of each ingredient needed for a concrete slab and how to perform preliminary design calculations for a concrete beam and a column. The course provides the basics you need to know about the Application of American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards for concrete.

Concrete reinforcement principles are covered, such as the ACI code on the minimum and maximum amount of concrete area to be occupied by rebar. Finally, you’ll learn how to identify common distresses of concrete such as cracking and how to remediate concrete distresses.

This course serves as an excellent introduction to concrete fundamentals for mechanical, industrial, chemical and electrical engineers. It’s also a great resource for civil and structural engineers looking for a refresher course on concrete.
