This 2-hour course is the first in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.
This course gives an overview of the entire process and explains the main factors that must be considering, including siting issues and drawings and other documents required.

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Types of substations
- Site considerations
- Environmental considerations of siting a substation
- Noise zone classifications for substations
- Weather phenomena that needs to be considered
- Documents and drawings needed in a substation design
