This course provides an engineering-based foundation on applying reliability principles throughout the life cycle of equipment (i.e., facility, plant, mechanical system, etc.). It covers common reliability concepts in a simple and practical way, as well as how to incorporate reliability engineering concepts. Upon completion of this course, students will understand how to plan reliability engineering activities for their equipment and perform straightforward and common reliability calculations, such as mean time to failure and probability of failure at a certain operating time. The course will present quantitative and non-quantitative methods on reliability prediction, reliability design, and analysis with practical examples such as electric motor failure forecasting.

Best practices and methods of reliability engineering are covered including, but not limited to, risk assessment, value engineering, cost versus benefit, physics of failure (PoF), fault tree diagrams, and root cause analysis (RCA). This course is for engineers, professional engineers, energy professionals, engineering managers, technical professionals, facilities managers and other professionals who are not intimately familiar or current on reliability engineering principles and practices and are interested in applying these principles within the life of equipment to achieve meaningful economic benefits.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Know how to estimate reliability by performing straightforward reliability calculations
  • Understand the application of reliability concepts throughout the life cycle of equipment
  • Techniques on how to design for reliability (DfR), identify reliability requirements or specifications, grow a systems’ reliability, and estimate reliability
  • Mechanical, electrical, and structural examples of how to apply reliability concepts to manage the reliability of equipment

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 40 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
