Length: 25 pages

This course provides an overview of the three main types of power electronics devices: rectifiers, dc-to-dc converters, and inverters. The course is divided into three sections, each of which explains the design and operation of these devices. Throughout the course, detailed circuits are shown to explain how these devices are built. Input and output voltage waveforms are also shown to explain the operation of these power electronics devices.

By learning how rectifiers, dc-to-dc converters, and inverters are designed, you will learn the fundamentals for designing your own power electronics devices, such as battery chargers, switched-mode power supplies, solar inverters, and variable frequency drives, among others.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • The three main types of power electronics devices
  • Circuit topologies for each power electronic device
  • The fundamentals to designing your own power electronic devices
  • How to analyze rectifier circuits, inverter circuits, buck circuits, boost circuits, and buck-boost circuits

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
