This 3-hour course covers the 1986 meltdown of reactor #4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. This is the most serious nuclear accident to date, which caused the loss of life and displacement of thousands of people. The course explains the unique characteristics of the RBMK reactors at Chernobyl, the test plan that went awry, the principal causes of the accident, and the resulting impacts of the disaster.
