This course describes the application of IEEE Std. 1547-2018 to distributed energy resources (DER) such as solar power systems. The course is primarily focused on explaining the differences between the newest version (2018) to the previous versions of this important Standard.

The course is divided into nine brief chapters. Each chapter covers one or more of the clauses in IEEE Std. 1547-2018. These clauses provide a summary of performance requirements, reactive power, and voltage/power control, response to abnormal Area EPS conditions, power quality, islanding, DER on distribution secondary, interoperability, and verification procedures.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • The background of IEEE Std. 1547
  • The standards related to distributed energy resources
  • The changes in the newest version of the standard
  • What is now allowed or required for interconnection
  • The differences between the three categories of abnormal operation
  • The various requirements for intentional and unintentional islanding

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
