Solving some HVAC problems can be, quite frankly, very tedious work. Mixing of air streams, heating and cooling coil processes, and HVAC system simulation all require laborious calculations by the engineer.

In this course, you will learn how to solve these problems using a spreadsheet program, which is included as part of the purchase price for the course. The course first covers the fundamentals of common HVAC processes. Mass and energy balance equations are reviewed and use of the psychrometric chart is covered. Practical applications, such as air mixing and cooling coil calculations are then covered through the use of examples.

As a bonus for the student, a link to an HVAC process calculator (in an Excel File) is provided in the course quiz. This calculator, which is included in the course purchase price, is a handy tool that will save you time when performing HVAC calculations.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Why use computer simulation?
  • Mass and energy balance equations
  • Psychrometric chart
  • Enthalpy potential
  • Adiabatic mixing of two streams of moist air
  • Heating and cooling without a change in specific humidity
  • Cooling coils
  • Cooling with change in specific humidity using the by-pass method
  • Space with absorption of heat and generation of moisture
  • Complete HVAC system simulation

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 27 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
